Mazda Europe CEO Slams Politicians Over 2035 Ban On ICE Vehicles

The Mazda Europe boss has said the automaker will be ready for any legislation, which means it has to hurry in the EV race, and that won’t be easy considering Mazda only sells one EV, viz the MX-30. But Ten Brink says forcing manufacturers to use battery electric technology as a solution means investment in other areas will dry up.

“I think that’s a big mistake. I think it’s okay to only sell zero-emission vehicles by 2035, but I think it’s a bit of a shame that they have to be electric with batteries. Personal opinion.”

BMW’s Oliver Zipse has also spoken out against a general ban on combustion engines, but for different reasons. “It would be harmful to simply abandon a technology in which you have a global market position,” he said at the time.

Like Mazda, the German automaker has said it will be ready for any legislation and will offer vehicles that suit the needs of different customers.
